Kalla Kálmán mesterszakács, szakoktató és szakíró 1946 szeptember 24-én született Csepelen. 1961-ben lett szakácsinas a Duna Szállodában, Eigen Egon mesterszakácsnál. 1966 őszén Jénába ment egy szálloda éttermébe gyakornoknak, majd hazatérve a Royal Szálloda éttermében, és balatoni vendéglőkben dolgozott.
